Through several years of playing together, breaking up and regrouping, the current members of Indecision couldn't decide on a name. Chalice, Stiltskins, Stinky Rock and 4-play were discarded because they just didn't seem quite right. Finally, band manager and sound engineeer, Danny McCrystal, spurred by the group's irresolute state of mind suggested the name "Indecision."

Comprised soley of Charlottesville residents, Indecision plays a selection of rock and roll ranging from Billy Idol to the Grateful Dead. The band's music is mostly a mix of songs from the 60s, combined with a select number of new wave pieces. When choosing its music, the group prefers songs with more depth than current top-40 hits, according to drummer Craig Dougald.

The band is trying to develop its own style and already plays several of its own songs. Rhythm and blues and rock and roll have the greatest influence on its style. The originals have a light, upbeat sound, and from the members' smiles that accompany the music, the band obviously enjoys playing them. Many of the band's songs, such as "Jungle Lips" reminiscent of Santana, emphasize instrumental performinng.

In addition to Dougald and Evans, Indecision is made up of guitarist David Ibbeken, bass player Shawn McCrystal and lead singer Skip Huley. The band members all played music inn high school, although they attended different schools and did not always play as a group. Indecision played private parties and high school dances before breaking into the Charlottesville club scene.

In the past month, the band has played several times at local bars, including Trax and the Mineshaft Cellar. Indecision has drawn enthusiastic crowds in its recent performances, both as an opening act and playing alone. Although, rather long, their selections inspire many energetic dancers. Playing at the Mineshaft Cellar Tuesday night the band had noticeably relaxed since a performance there two weeks ago. "The band loosens up each time they play together," audience member Chris Graham said.

Dougald and Evans have played together, without the rest of the band for the past six months, and the pair performed a set Tuesday night, before joining the other Indecision members. Their music contains more mello songs, such as selections by Elton John and America, than the entire band plays. Both Douglad and Evans usually play acoustic guitar during their sets together. Dougald the band's drummer, said he plans to increase his musical ability further and is currently taking classes in classical piano.

Indecision currently draws a mostly local following, with a core group of regulars. Although pleased with this support, the band wants to increase its following to the University crowd, according to Shawn McCrystal.
